Search Engine Optimisation can make or break a website. Or, more accurately, good SEO will help your website be more visible, while bad SEO will relegate you to the back channels of the internet forever, or worse, Google’s second page.

Keywords and Phrases

Keywords and phrases are important tools in getting viewers to click on your page. It is necessary to use the right keywords and phrases to land readers on your site. For example, if you install solar panels for homes in Adelaide, your audience is people wanting to find out about having solar panels installed in their homes near Adelaide. In this case, “solar panels”, “Adelaide”, and “installation” will be keywords or phrases.

It’s good practice to use your keywords and phrases at least once in your H1 heading and four times throughout the copy. You can learn more about how much copy you should have on your page here.

Putting Search Engine Optimisation into practice

Ok, so you’ve identified the appropriate. Keywords and phrases for Search Engine Optimisation, now you need to integrate them into your copy and see the extra clicks come rolling in.  Let’s start with the content.

You need to publish regular content (this pleases the Google Gods greatly), and it will help push your website to the top of searches as it shows that your site is up-to-date and relevant. Of course, regular content doesn’t mean much if it’s hard to read.

You should be writing:

  • Short and easy-to-read content – copy that is too long-winded will make your readers lose interest.
  • Relevant – just like your Search Engine Optimisation, the rest of your writing must contribute to the message or product you’re trying to share.
  • Shareable – include links to other posts on your site or other websites relevant to your business. Work with affiliates to have them share links to your page and include “share to” buttons to help readers spread your work on social media.

Extra Ways to integrate Search Engine Optimisation

Did you know that copy is not the only way to sprinkle your site with good search engine optimization? There are a few more methods you can try.

First up, name the images and videos on your site with keywords and include alt tags. This helps visually impaired people use your site, as many use programs that read image and video descriptions aloud.

A second method is to add a sitemap to your website. A sitemap is a lot like a home’s floor plan but for your website.
